What is the work
that is going on over in India. What kind of information is available.
During a recent informational meeting, Jerris answered some of the
common questions many have.
300 people a day, 69,307 people this year being baptized unto Christ in India. The goal is set to baptize 150,000 by the end of this year. There have been 21,000 gospel meetings and 486 denominational preachers have converted this year.
Q - How do so many people get baptized each time you go to India? A - People in India desperately want to hear the word of the Lord. Americans, and for that matter much of Europe and the Americas take this for granted , since they can go to church on any Sunday and hear the word being taught. There are over 70,000 births in India each year, and over 1.3 billion people. This vast expanse of humanity is also the reason for so many reaching for the Lord. On a recent trip, Jerris was literally begged by a native gospel preacher in a remote area to come to a meeting where he lived and worked for the Lord. This native preacher stated that if he, Jerris, would just show up, that a great crowd would be available to listen, and many would be baptized if Jerris would just come. There are dozens of these kind of invitations that Jerris must turn down due to time constraints.
Q - Do christians remain faithful after so many come to the Lord? A- From recent information; 78.3% remain faithful. This number is extremely high due to the fact that lessons were learned from past experiences in America. A great deal of follow-up is planned, and scheduled by the christians there. Q - How did the church come to India? A - Historically, Thomas, the apostle was credited with his work with the "Diaspora Jews" who settled on the southwestern Indian coast at a time before Christ was born.

At the turn
of the century the reformation moved into India from America, along with
a movement that sprung up in Australia that moved their missions to India.
This lost steam for many years until E.W. McMillan from the College
church in Abilene became involved in a revival. He was followed by
J.C. Bailey in 1962, who had as one of his followers Charles Scott. From
Scott, Jerris learned and became involved with the work. Jerris with
his co-worker Ron Clayton at present have had over 250 men and women go over
to India with them. Jerris works with 50 other Americans which include
15 full time people.
Q - Is language a problem? A- No, there are only 250 languages spoken in India. Most Indians know 2 to 5 languages, but Jerris is never short of an interpreter.
