Our Early Website

Have you ever wondered how long the Internet has been around? According to the University of Beruit Website the following is the answer.

The History of the Internet and the Web

In the 1960s the Internet started in the US
as a network of the Department of Defense (ARPANET). Later, universities began using the Internet to exchange research information.

In the 1990s the Internet grew fast and included e-mail, telnet, newsgroups, and FTP. So far, the Internet consisted of mostly text with a few downloadable images.

In the early 1990s the Internet included a graphical interface which allowed the inclusion of hyperlinks, graphics, audio, and video to the Internet pages. These pages turned out what today we call Web pages.

Since the middle of 1994 the Web has quickly become the preferred method for compiling and publishing documents, files, photos, sound, and video clips.

This site actually began in 1994 when it was only a text on the free space that AOL provided. Then it was not a true website. A true website with multiple pages and actual graphics was started in April, 1995. Although this is a short time in the scheme of things, it is ancient in the sense of the history of Internet progress. It was begun because it was felt that there were enough people out there who would get their information this way. Today this site averages over 30,000 visitors a month, and many visitors learn about our beliefs and how we worship from this site.
