Dear Brethren,

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. God has granted us another safe trip and a successful mission to India. The church continues to grow at an incredibly fast pace. This generation of Indians is open to the same restoration plea that won the hearts of Americans from 1830 to 1860. We are grateful to be a part of history in the making. We praise God for the following statistics:

We received the following two letters from brother Peter Solomon. His letter and that of brother Sarkar which he enclosed sound so much like a journey back to Biblical days of the first century that I wanted to share them with you.

March 29, 1999

Respected Sir, Hope and believe that you are all right. God know that, we are remembering you daily twice in our everyday prayer. We can understand your pain and grief. [Brother Sarkar is offering condolences to brother Peter whose wife passed away last summer.] Yes we love you.

Our Church activities is going as usual. I think I have mentioned you that in the month of January my mother became a member of Church of Christ.

Sir, we hope that you might have known all the news about Maharastra state toward Christianity. Nowadays the situation of Maharastra state for Christians is very fearful. Police comes to the Churches again and again, calls Christians to the police station and makes the Christians fearful.

Even through people are taking baptism in their own will but state government says they are forcefully converted

On March 7th our Sunday worship was in progress. At that time a policeman came to us and asked me how many conversions I have performed also asked the list, of all Christians specially the new converts by showing a letter of police authority. We completely stop the worship and prepared the list and hand over him. Not only us but to every church police goes, asks list of conversion and makes the situation fearful.

Anytime can be happen anything to us because police can charge us falsely that we have converted forcefully. Please remember that God's children in the state of Maharastra are in trouble. We request you please pray for the safety of God's children here.

God willing, if I invited, I may come to attend the marriage ceremony of Brother debakumar, at that time I can see you. We always remember your love and affection toward us during our staying period in Madras. Always we feel we are unworthy to receive your love. We Love you. Our prayers is always with you. With best regards.

Sincerely, In His Kingdom S. P. Sarkar

Greeting - Dear Brother Jerris N. Bullard in Christ.

March 29, 1999

"...And their prayers came up to Holy dwelling place to heaven..." 2 Chr 13:27.

I  thank you for all your prayers and the fellowship in Christ. They are helpful and blessings in my life and every member of the Lord's Church here in Chennai.

Soul - Soul winning is God's work! After all, we desire with God, 1 Tim 2:4. 11 precious souls were added throughout the month of March 1999. Most of them were Hindus, came out from the idols and the age-old satanic traditions. They held their Bibles to their chest and boldly confess the Christ is the Lord.

Church - We have expanded the Church building for 1,500 people seating capacity. It has to be filled Lord willing shortly. Of course, the seating is not like USA but in a popular Indian way of life. The home Bible studies and the visiting continue. Each worship service is fully attended and the joy of strength and love prevail.

Printing - I am busy as always, watch over the souls and carrying the National Bible College and the Little Timothy Matriculation School. I have printed 15,000 Tamil translation on Charles Scott's Booklet, "Things Eternally Important", beside our own 8th volume of Soul Saving Songs Book, which has over 400 pages. The Tamil book would benefit all the Tamil-speaking people in South India and the neighboring countries. The beauty of this songbook is that it has been edited and printed so that anyone who knows English Alphabet can sing with us, because each line of the Tamil songs has equivalent transliteration in English language.

Meeting - As the summer begins, I am scheduled to speak 8 gospel meetings between April and May 1999. Please pray for the listeners and God may open their hearts for the reception of the Gospel.

Once again I thank each one of your family and your willingness to share the Gospel to a most suitable country and people. I am always anxious to receive your letter and phone calls. May the grace of God be with you always.

With many regards and love,

PETER SOLOMON

A WORD FROM JUANITA

My second mission trip can be described in three words: Wow, Ooooh and Ouch! Wow it was springtime in India. The flowers were blooming and the weather was great. The ladies' classes were wonderful. The Indian ladies are always so nice and interested in hearing God's word. Each class had from 30 to 100. It was thrilling to see about 30 ladies from my classes being baptized. Their faces glowed with great joy.

Ooooh! Appendicitis came on me suddenly while we were in New Delhi. The doctor said I had to have an operation. Being in a foreign land, a long way from home, this was a little frightening. Not knowing about the hospital or doctors, what would be my decision? Would our trip be over? Should we return to the states for my surgery? What would be my decision? My fears were allayed as I discovered the hospital was clean and well equipped with the latest technology. The staff of doctors, nurses, and aides were skilled, well informed, and very courteous. Our American health workers could learn something about TCL from the Indians who know how to treat their patients.

OUCH! After x-rays and ultra-sound confirmed the diagnosis. I was in the hospital for five days. Jerris was able to stay overnight in my room and have his meals with me. A nurse stayed by my bed all night following the surgery. The doctors were excellent. I could not have had better care. We went back to Hyderabad where I recovered for a week. Ten days after surgery I was able to return to teaching my classes. If you need surgery give India a try. God watched over me. If I had been in one of the villages, I would have had, no doubt, a different story to tell. God is blessing the work in India. I look forward to our next trip which should begin about August 9, 1999.
